Our Bodies Ourselves Co-sponsors "Living in Pryde"

Our Bodies Ourselves co-sponsored a Ford Hall Forum event featuring the film Living in Pryde, which was nominated for a GLAAD award.

Living in Pryde is a powerful short documentary following residents of The Pryde—New England’s first LGBTQ+ welcoming, affordable senior housing community. As LGBTQ+ rights face renewed challenges, the film highlights a generation that came of age without basic legal protections. Residents draw on a lifetime of resilience, reflecting on surviving the AIDS crisis, fighting for same-sex marriage, and coming out as transgender. Located in a former public school in Boston’s Hyde Park, The Pryde is both a refuge and a target—a place where community becomes a powerful force in the ongoing fight for civil rights and equality.

Our Bodies Ourselves executive director Amy Agigian and Ford Hall Forum director Susan Spurlock welcomed an in-person and remote audience to watch the film at Suffolk University's historic Modern Theatre on May 4, 2026. Isabelle Thibault (director of programs and services, LGBTQ Senior Housing, Inc.) introduced "Living in Pryde." After the screening, Pascale Florestal led a panel including Pryde residents Eddie Whitman, Shirley Riga, and Thea Iberall, reflecting on their experiences of coming out, Boston's queer culture, and what it is like to live in the Pryde community. Then Stephanie Lyden and Rob Tokanel of GBH joined the conversation to relate what brought them to make the film. The program concluded with audience discussion about how to build community and advice for the younger queer generation.
