high blood pressure

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, occurs when the force of blood flowing through our blood vessels is consistently too high. Though high blood pressure has no symptoms in most people, it can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease or strokes. Blood pressure is generally diagnosed when a person has  consistent systolic readings of 130 mm Hg or higher, or diastolic readings of 80 mm Hg or higher. However, cutoff numbers for high blood pressure can vary based on someone's health history (such as diabetes and previous heart attacks) and it is also measured very differently in pregnancy.
