Menopause and Heart Disease Risk
This article from the American Heart Association addresses menopause and heart disease risk. As we age, our risk for cardiovascular disease increases. This risk is affected by several factors related to menopause.
The earlier we reach menopause, even when caused by the surgical removal of ovaries, the higher our risk of heart disease.
The change in hormones can also affect our risk. A decrease in estrogen can increase cholesterol and contribute to heart disease and stroke.
Some menopausal symptoms correlate to higher heart disease risks. These include hot flashes, night sweats, depression, and sleep problems.
A woman’s risk for cardiovascular disease rises as she ages. Some changes in the body are relevant to cardiovascular risk.
