Managing Endometriosis Pain while Working from Home
In this blog post for "Everyday Health," Our Bodies Ourselves content expert Arielle Dance, PhD, discusses six ways that she manages her endometriosis while working remotely from home. The resource is geared towards other menstruating people who may have endometriosis.
First, Dance arranges her workplace to meet the needs of her body. Second, she makes time to move her body during the work day, like going on walks. Third, Dance strives to maintain a healthier lifestyle by eating more fruits and vegetables and speaking with a therapist. Fourth, she fits household tasks into her daily routine as her schedule allows. Fifth, Dance can go to the bathroom as needed which is especially helpful for endometriosis symptoms. Lastly, working from home allows Dance to control when she interacts with her co-workers.
When my job switched to remote work in 2020, I had my reservations. But now I’m actually grateful for the unexpected blessing. The quiet, slower pace and the forced recharging at home both help me thrive in a super-focused space where I can be comfortable. Although I miss the camaraderie of a shared office, I do not miss the pain and discomfort I experienced in the workplace.
