puberty
The process of physical and sexual changes from childhood to adulthood, initiated by hormone signals from the brain to the gonads. Puberty usually takes several years to complete -- sometimes even more than five or six -- and changes the brain, bones, muscles, skin, breasts and reproductive organs.
