domestic violence

Domestic violence, also called domestic abuse, takes place within the family or is inflicted by people with whom we share a home. While generally thought of as husbands’ violence against their wives, domestic violence also includes physical, mental, economic, and psychological violence against elders, partners of any gender, children, siblings, and housemates. It is sometimes called “intimate partner violence.”
