Yamnia I. Cortés
Yamnia I. Cortés, PhD, MPH, RN, FAHA, FAAN, is an associate professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and director of the CortésMenoLab.
Her interdisciplinary research program focuses on understanding sociocultural, environmental, behavioral, and biological factors that influence midlife women’s health, particularly cardiovascular health and menopause-related disparities.
She develops culturally tailored, community-engaged interventions to improve menopause outcomes and reduce cardiovascular disease risk among Latinas. Dr. Cortés also examines the interface between cardiovascular health, sleep, and cognitive decline.
Dr. Cortés earned her BA in biology with a concentration in Latino/a studies from Williams College, an MPH in sociomedical sciences, and a BS/MS in nursing from Columbia University, where she also completed her PhD in nursing science.
She completed postdoctoral training in cardiovascular epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She is a fellow of the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Nursing, associate editor of "Menopause," and serves on the board of trustees of The Menopause Society.
