Wendy Simonds

Wendy Simonds (she/her) is professor of gerontology and sociology at Georgia State University. Simonds participated in research on the clinical trials of mifepristone in the 1990s that led to home medication abortion.

She is author of numerous books, including: "Hospital Land USA" and "Abortion at Work: Ideology and Practice in a Feminist Clinic," and co-authored "Laboring On: Birth in Transition in the United States" (with Barbara Katz Rothman and Bari Meltzer Norman), and "Sex Matters: The Sexuality and Society Reader" (currently in its 5th edition).

She is currently working on discourse analyses of cultural representations of the sexuality of aging adults (in self-help materials and cartoons).

Wendy Simonds grew up on OBOS, and could not be more thrilled to be part of this panel. Last summer, she was honored to serve as the judge for the OBOS 50 Years On art exhibit at the Upstream Gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
