Mosaka Fallah
Dr. Mosoka Fallah is the Acting Director of the Science and Innovation Directorate at Africa CDC, where he is leading transformative efforts to strengthen health security and foster innovation across the African continent.
He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Refuge Place International, an NGO in Liberia and the US that addresses how access to quality affordable health care impacts maternal and infant mortality among poor urban and rural dwellers in Liberia. He and his team are currently working to rapidly scale up this successful model, with community involvement and empowerment central to their work, across the country and in neighboring Sierra Leone. In 2017, he was awarded the USAID Liberia Health Worker and the Development Person of the Year award for his work with Refuge Place International.
Dr. Fallah completed his PhD in Immunology at the University of Kentucky and his MPH in Global Health/Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. For his work building community-level trust in the Ebola response, Dr. Fallah was named a Time Magazine Person of the Year in 2014. He currently serves as the Health Security Consultant for the World Bank in West Africa and as a consulting Scientist for Medical Science & Computing, LLC (MSC), which provides services to the US National Institutes of Health. He is a part-time faculty member at Harvard Medical School.
With a distinguished career in global health and a passion for scientific advancement, Dr. Fallah is dedicated to reshaping Africa’s research and development (R&D) and clinical trial landscape through a strategic focus on financing, coordination and governance, and human capacity development. His vision centers on creating a sustainable research ecosystem in Africa, enabling the continent to independently produce medical products and address its unique health challenges. Dr. Fallah is championing robust clinical trials and research initiatives to bolster local manufacturing capabilities, ensuring self-reliance in medical product development. Collaboration is a cornerstone of his approach. Dr. Fallah is spearheading partnerships with renowned global institutions, including the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), Harvard University, and UCSF, to accelerate research and innovations tailored to Africa’s needs.
