Kalisha Bond Johnson

Dr. Kalisha Bonds Johnson (she/her) is an assistant professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia, and a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Emory’s Integrated Memory Care Clinic—a primary care setting specializing in the care of persons living with dementia and their families.

She is also the principal investigator of the D.E.C.I.D.E. Research Lab, which develops culturally responsive interventions to enhance the quality of life for African American individuals living with dementia and their family care partners, with an emphasis on parent-adult daughter relationships and improving communication between these families and their primary care providers.

Dr. Bonds Johnson earned her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2007, her master of science in nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2012, and her PhD from Oregon Health & Science University in 2019. She completed postdoctoral training (or training after her PhD studies) at Emory University in 2021.

She is also a proud member of the Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. When Dr. Bonds Johnson is not writing manuscripts or grants, she spends her time with her loving husband, Eric, and their son, Noah.

I am partnering with Our Bodies Ourselves because I am passionate about helping families navigate the challenges of dementia care with knowledge, compassion, and confidence. My work is dedicated to amplifying voices often left out of healthcare conversations and ensuring every care partner feels seen, supported, and equipped.
