Emily Chambers
Emily Chambers, LMSW, is pursuing her PhD in social welfare at the University at Buffalo. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Binghamton University and has extensive experience in the clinical and nonprofit sector, including work in inpatient psychiatric care and multiple levels of substance use treatment.
Her research examines systemic gender inequities in women’s reproductive healthcare, particularly around contraceptive access and pain management practices in gynecological contexts.
Emily is developing a broader research agenda focused on reproductive health inequities. Alongside her collaborations with the Human Sexualities Lab and the Equity Lab at Binghamton University, she leads an independent project that examines geographic and community-level variation in pharmacy practices, focusing on the locking of contraceptive products, with the goal of informing advocacy and policy to improve equitable access to care.
When women’s pain is dismissed, it is more than a medical oversight; it’s a form of gendered harm with lasting consequences. My goal is to amplify these voices and push for change.
