Amy Romano
Amy Romano (she/her) has used her clinical background as a nurse and midwife and her business degree to work continuously across sectors to transform maternity care and help to build a national movement for more human-centered, evidence-based, and respectful care for all.
Amy's past work includes redesigning prenatal care to make it more supportive and personalized, adding options like group visits, childbirth education, and health coaching. She has also designed programs to improve the safety of community birth options such as home birth and freestanding birth centers.
Amy founded Primary Maternity Care to be a woman- and worker-owned force that will reshape U.S. maternity care and improve outcomes, equity, safety, and costs.
She helped edit the 9th edition of "Our Bodies, Ourselves" and has co-authored other texts and academic articles on evidence-based care and system reform. She blogs at medium.com/@midwifeamy and is currently working on her next book, an investigative work about profiteering in pregnancy, called "Motherf*cker$."
I was so grateful for the opportunity to work on the iconic OBOS book when I was a young mother and early career midwife and advocate, and I have gone on to do so much system work inspired by OBOS and the mentors I worked with in the collective. I'm excited to be contributing again in this new era for the book and movement!
