Laced with humor as well as righteous feminist rage, Kate Helen Downey's podcast "Cramped" follows her quest for answers about her severe period pain, and why the medical system still does not seem to know enough about female bodies.

For this episode on feminism and bodily autonomy, Downey invited Our Bodies Ourselves program director Laura R. Prieto to talk about the Boston Women's Health Book Collective, the start of the women's health movement, and what happened to all that activist energy after the 1970s.

Consciousness-raising is an idea that goes back to the 1970s but I think is still super relevant. [It] helps people become aware of the enormity of these issues and how they are not alone.
