Event Details:

To commemorate Independence Day, the Boston Public Library's Special Collections is hosting an open house in the Exhibition Hall on the first floor of the historic McKim Building.

An early edition of "Our Bodies, Ourselves" from 1971 will be on display alongside other historic documents connected to American democracy and liberation.

The open house will feature about 25 items. They will include key documents from women's history; along with "Our Bodies, Ourselves," you'll see a copy of the Declaration of Sentiments, from the first women's rights convention, held at Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848; and the Combahee River Collective Statement from 1977, a landmark in the history of Black feminism. An original printing of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Emancipation Proclamation will be on display as well. Multiple original printings of the Declaration of Independence are on view concurrently at the Boston Public Library's Leventhal Map & Education Center. Library staff will be at the event and ready to talk with visitors about the material.

No registration is required.
