April 2024 Newsletter: Focus on Gender-Based Violence

April 1, 2024

In her opening note, Executive Director Amy Agigian discusses and defines gender-based violence (GBV). GBV is one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. She reflects upon the prevalence of cis-male violence and the experience of being a target. “We are worth defending: our bodies, our rights, our friends and communities, and our planet.”

This newsletter highlights our resources on climate change and how violence towards women has heightened in its wake. Nadeeka Karunaratne, chair of the GBV panel, shares her thoughts on the power of knowledge and what gives her hope. Also featured are OBOS Today interns, Ashvi Shah and Dulce Cisneros, and what they have learned about GBV.

The newsletter also includes links to various GBV resources, including “A Conversation About Healing” and a feminist community forum discussing shared experiences of sexual violence.

In the News announces two forthcoming film screenings: “Plan C” and “Fight Like Hell: The Activist Life of Mother Jones.”
