Amy Agigian’s opening letter reflects on the horrific violence unleashed in Israel/Palestine and in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, where “ethnic cleansing” is perpetrated by Azerbaijan against Armenians. These humanitarian crises are also mental health crises that carry particular burdens for women.

Societies that respect, protect, and fulfill all human rights are the best protectors of mental health. The issue spotlights Dr. Janie Ward, mental health content chair, along with a resource on ADHD in women and Isabella’s story of seeking a mental health counselor who could understand her identity as a person of color. Photos illustrate a report from the 40th anniversary celebration of the Black Women’s Health Imperative, where Our Bodies Ourselves received a Sentry Award.
