Violence against Women (VAW) includes all forms of violence directed at women. The overwhelming majority of perpetrators are male. Most perpetrators are partners and ex-partners of their victims, although VAW can also be perpetrated by a wide range of others, including strangers, acquaintances, employers, and state agents such as police and military.
