Psychological trauma is a deeply disturbing, severely distressing, often terrifying and/or life-threatening experience that can result in psychological symptoms including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A single event, such as a sexual assault can trigger PTSD, as may an ongoing, complex traumatic situation, such as a war or an abusive relationship.
