Lesbians are women who are sexually attracted to women, have intimate and familial relationships with women, and identify as lesbians. Lesbians can be cisgender, transgender, or have another gender identity. Lesbians have been, and continue to be, leaders in every area of women’s advancement. Many terms are used within lesbian communities and among people who study lesbians, including butches, femmes, women loving women, WSW (women who have sex with women), dykes, tomgirls, tomboys, stone butches, sapphics, studs, and fems.
