Endometriosis is a complex hormonal and immune system disease in which tissue similar to that which lines the inside of the uterus (endometrium) stimulates an inflammatory response somewhere outside the uterine lining, leading to the formation of scar tissue. It affects girls, women, and AFABs from before the first menstrual period to postmenopause and can cause debilitating pain, infertility, and other serious health problems.
