Loretta J. Ross

Activist, reproductive justice leader, and public intellectual Loretta J. Ross is co-founder of SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, and an associate professor at Smith College.

She started her career in social justice movements in the 1970s. Along with SisterSong, she has worked with a wide range of organizations: the National Football League Players’ Association, the D.C. Rape Crisis Center, the National Organization for Women, the National Black Women’s Health Project, the Center for Democratic Renewal (National Anti-Klan Network), and the National Center for Human Rights Education.

Her best known book is "Calling In: How to Start Making Change with Those You’d Rather Cancel," a combination memoir and manifesto. Her other publications include "Reproductive Justice: An Introduction and Radical Reproductive Justice" and, most recently, "Abortion and Reproductive Justice: An Essential Guide for Resistance," co-written with Marlene Gerber Fried.
