A TED talk from doula, reporter, and activist Miriam Zoila P̩rez about how racism affects pregnant people’s health and the health of their babies. Fortunately, compassionate prenatal and birth care can help, and the JJ Way model of childbirth and prenatal care aims to provide accessible community-based birthing care.

“Even nationally, black women are four times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth than white women. They’re also twice as likely for their infants to die before the first year of life than white infants, and two to three times more likely to give birth too early or too skinny – a sign of insufficient development.”
