Want to Be on the Cover of Our Bodies, Ourselves?

By Christine Cupaiuolo — April 15, 2011

As many of you know, we’ve been hard at work on the new edition of “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” due out in October.

Now we’re turning attention to the cover — a new design that will feature about three dozen or so OBOS readers. We’re thrilled about the opportunity to include girls and women for whom OBOS has made a difference.

The catch is we’ve got a very short time frame to pull this together. If you’re interested in submitting your photo, please complete this form and send it in with your headshot as soon as possible. Photos must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (EST) Friday, April 22. We’ll notify participants who have been selected by April 30.

The cover is an extension of our vision to make the 40th anniversary edition more inclusive and to spotlight readers and women’s groups around the world that have adapted OBOS for their own communities. While women’s stories have always been the foundation of “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” this edition features an entire chapter, Relationships, built around women’s conversations, and the book reflects many new experiences and perspectives.

The focus of the 2011 edition is on reproductive health and sexuality — there’s new and updated information on pregnancy, labor and birth, birth control, and abortion, and many chapters have undergone an overhaul, including body image, sexuality, activism, politics, navigating the healthcare system, and the links between the environment and women’s health. More than 200 contributors have helped shape the book, which remains free of corporate and pharmaceutical influence.

We’re thankful that Simon & Schuster is working with us to make this cover happen — and we look forward to working with many of you in preparation for this anniversary edition.

p.s. If you want share an OBOS story with a wider audience, submit it here as part of our story collection for the 40th anniversary and it will appear on the blog. You can learn more about our anniversary year here. Thanks!
