[From the Archives of Our Bodies, Our Blog](/blog)# Quote of the Day: Prime Minister Disowns Lesbian Daughter

By Christine Cupaiuolo • October 31, 2007

Please note: This entry -- originally posted at [Our Bodies, Our Blog](https://ourbodiesourselves.org/blog) -- has not been updated since the publication date listed above.

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen announced during a student graduation ceremony that he is legally disowning his 19-year-old adopted daughter, who is a lesbian, so she cannot claim any inheritance.

"My adopted daughter now has a wife," he said. "I’m quite disappointed."

Yet don't get the wrong idea -- the prime minister [does not believe in discrimination](http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/31/world/asia/31briefs-gay.html) against gays and lesbians: "Most of them are good people and are not doing alcohol, drugs or racing vehicles."

Go figure.

ha! My Nana said the same thing when the family revealed (after many years of hiding it) that my brother is gay. They thought the news would give her a heart attack. Instead she said, "at least he's not on drugs". What a woman!

This has to be one of the most moronic things ive ever heard in my life.

Just because your child doesn't have the same beliefs as you doesn't mean you just disown her. This is so wrong there has to be another reason as to why hes doing this to her otherwise cant he be charged for discrimination? If i were that girl, you wouldn't see me on the holidays. I would never want to see my parents again.
