Wade](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roe_v._Wade#Supreme_Court_decision "Roe v Wade overview on Wikipedia") decision making abortion legal throughout the United States. As we have seen, however, legality does not equal access. Many [states have chipped away](http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-stealth-war-on-abortion-20140115 "The Stealth War on Abortion") at Roe v. Wade; in 2012 alone, 22 states enacted [70 new abortion restrictions](http://www.guttmacher.org/statecenter/updates/2013/statetrends42013.html "Laws Affecting Reproductive Health and Rights: 2013 State Policy Review"), making abortion [much more difficult](http://www.salon.com/2014/01/16/americas_abortion_deserts_how_the_right_turns_back_the_clock_on_roe/ "“Most days, I feel like we’re going backwards” - Abortion doctors speak out on the rollback of Roe") to obtain There have been numerous stories lately on [state abortion battles](http://www.politico.com/story/2014/01/abortion-battles-shifting-strategy-101811.html "Shifting strategies for state abortion battles in 2014 Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2014/01/abortion-battles-shifting-strategy-101811.html#ixzz2r4wCOv9o") and where the [push will be in 2014](http://www.policymic.com/articles/78407/6-states-where-reproductive-rights-will-be-under-attack-in-2014 "6 States Where Reproductive Rights Will Be Under Attack in 2014") to further reduce abortion access, as (mostly male) politicians, seeking to boost their [midterm election](http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/21/us/politics/parties-seize-on-abortion-issues-in-midterm-race.html?emc=edit_tnt_20140120&tntemail0=y&_r=2 "Parties Seize on Abortion Issues in Midterm Race") profiles, will try to enact more barriers. Abortion rights activists [are going on the offensive](http://www.cbsnews.com/news/abortion-rights-activists-plan-to-go-on-offense-in-2014/ "Abortion rights activists plan to go on offense in 2014"). So should you. For this anniversary of Roe, make a plan to support reproductive choice in 2014. [Connect with supporters in your area](http://wordsofchoice.blogspot.com/2014/01/roe-v-wade-events-2014-bolster-resolve.html "Roe v. Wade Events 2014 Bolster Resolve"). Contact your senators and representatives and let them know you support the [Women's Health Protection Act](http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th/senate-bill/1696?q=%7B%22search%22:%5B%22women's%20health%20protection%20act%22%5D%7D "bill info and status") (S 1696/HR 3471), which would prohibit many restrictions that intrude on a woman's decision and make it more difficult for physicians to provide abortion services. Learn about [abortion restrictions in your state](http://www.guttmacher.org/statecenter/abortion.html "Guttmacher Institute: State Resources"), and check to see if bills proposing new restrictions have been introduced.
